Halloween tomatoes

And not even the end of them. Still picking cherry tomatoes. Crazy mild weather. No real signs of frost damage in the garden yet.

Got another 55 daffodils in the ground. The forecast has a decent amount of rain tonight and tomorrow and 40% of showers every day next week. I didn’t water them in, but will if the rain doesn’t come.

I have started putting the terracotta pots into the shed. And a bunch of winter prep to go, more pots and the cushions. So glad I downscaled this year!

And now time for a spring shower

Calamondin citrus aka my orange tree

After a thorough going over with a toothbrush, dipped in alcohol, I hope to have reduced the scale infestation on my baby.

It’s just 10c today so she’ll have to come back in tonight.

Cut the daffodils that fell over. A few were the victim of a fallen cedar. Picked up five emerald cedars from Home Depot last week. Five footers for $30. Have to get them dug in before heading to Venice.

Taste of summer

A week of freakishly warm weather, breaking some daytime records in the high 20s, has everything bursting. Along with a surprise visit from a rabbit, again!

Wild rabbit that hung out with me for about an hour. Very chill

Apple blossoms are starting to show on about a third of the tree. Moving two of them into more sun to see if they come alive with fruit.

Great Friday

Cool but sunny day. 5 feels like zero. At 16:30 it’s 12 degrees on the balcony. Signs of spring everywhere. Lilac buds are swelling, the catskins have shed most of their pollen, daffodil flower buds are showing, snow drops in bloom in paces I didn’t expect.

Moved another peony that has been trying to move out of the shade of the Sycamore by itself. Pruned the two burning bushes (I know) in preparation for my cedar backdrop.

I put up the summer compost basket to let the big one focus on finishing what’s already in it. Gave it a quarter turn. The mass of worms is impressive. And that earthy smell…

Oh and we had an Easter Bunny in the yard the other morning.

First day of spring – 2021!

Spring arrived. In a box. 50 Jonquil daffodils, 5 cloves of porcelain Music garlic and five mix giant alliums. $75. Thanks Veseys.

We’re in for a week of grey and rain so I got them all in over the past two days. No frost yet!

The alliums went in on 84. The garlic went in where the summer composter was in the veg bed. And seven new daffodil spots. Can never has to many daffodils.
