A bumbling Mother’s Day

Repotted the tomatoes and moved the cannabis to the top deck. Organizing everything to be as efficient as possible.
Addas Akhavan is representing Canada at the Biennale. A stack of bronze sticks. So simple yet meditative.
Direct sowed Calendula in three spots in the backyard. Potted up some of Bill’s poppy seeds.
Last weekend to be dragging the dahlias and the orange in and out.

Still having night time temps in the low signal digits. Have to bring in the early potted up dahlias. Lots of rain. Everything is growing and so far the only winter kill has been the rosemary, which was pushing it. Not exactly rosemary climate.

We keep getting a taste of better weather, then no. Yesterday had it all, rain, snow, sun, wind. I’m out there daily poking around. Great to see last year’s new acquisitions are coming back.

Day 1

Day 6

Great germination rate. Everything but one cannabis and the red tomatoes are up and looking strong.
Red, orange and yellow tomatoes saved from last year. Calendula from Helen, zinnias from the roof deck and marigolds from the raised container. Let’s see what happens.
23C this afternoon. Gorgeous. Everything is coming to life.

The dahlia tubers have all survived winter in the attic and have started sprouting. What to do given it isn’t April yet. So pot them up. Fingers crossed that I can get them outside in early May.

First arrival of 2026!
