After a thorough going over with a toothbrush, dipped in alcohol, I hope to have reduced the scale infestation on my baby.
It’s just 10c today so she’ll have to come back in tonight.
Cut the daffodils that fell over. A few were the victim of a fallen cedar. Picked up five emerald cedars from Home Depot last week. Five footers for $30. Have to get them dug in before heading to Venice.
My calamondin citrus always gets infested with scale insects. Today was the alcohol and Q-tip treatment. I try and check the underside of every leaf and stem along the veins for the little armoured creatures, then give them a dab of the alcohol and with the dry tip wipe them off the plant. I am just that crazy. The first sign of infestation is the clear, sticky honeydew they excrete which falls on the upper side of leaves below the creature. She’s worth it!
I keep thinking that the season is over. Planted about 30 cloves of garlic on the 3rd: 10 from East End Garden Centre and the day of planting I grabbed a big head of garlic from Peru at the grocery store. Surprises and delights to be revealed in July. That said I still have two stalks of Brussel sprouts in the veg garden getting frosty delicious.
The furniture is wrapped and ready for winter. Citrus plants have been moved inside and need some serious attention. Started repotting today. A lot of dead roots.
Just harvested the pineapple – images in reversed order. It was truly amazing when it was in bloom.
Oh yes, did get those 40 new daffodils in! Hope to see them in early April. About 135 days from now 🤞
And started the Master Gardener training program. V. Excited. More on that later.
