Started first veg seeds today! Three tomatoes, big beef, golden cherry and premio. One green pepper, new ace. And the experiment for this year, dahlias from seeds; fresco and showpiece.

Thrilled to see the daffodils emerging. It was a real old time winter. Snow and cold. But it’s spring and onwards.

The large citrus is in bloom. The scent is amazing

So pretty today. Minus 1 and a good five cm of snow. Was 15 degrees on Thursday. Had a few days of pulling out boxwoods. The leaf miner problem persists.

It’s a real winter wonderland. About 3cm. The catkins on the hazelnuts are looking good.

I keep thinking that the season is over. Planted about 30 cloves of garlic on the 3rd: 10 from East End Garden Centre and the day of planting I grabbed a big head of garlic from Peru at the grocery store. Surprises and delights to be revealed in July. That said I still have two stalks of Brussel sprouts in the veg garden getting frosty delicious.
The furniture is wrapped and ready for winter. Citrus plants have been moved inside and need some serious attention. Started repotting today. A lot of dead roots.
Just harvested the pineapple – images in reversed order. It was truly amazing when it was in bloom.

Oh yes, did get those 40 new daffodils in! Hope to see them in early April. About 135 days from now 🤞
And started the Master Gardener training program. V. Excited. More on that later.
Just harvested the sweet potatoes. Pretty much the last garden harvest of this year.
However I am renaming them “sweat” potatoes. According to Purdue U..,,

A special thanks to Kara for the rooted slips this spring! She started it from a potato she got at The Big Carrot. Organic parentage indeed.
Elsewhere in the garden everything is ready for a hard frost.
The weather has been great with plenty of rain all summer. I didn’t have to water the veg garden at all. Frost seems late and we are in for a whack of rain.

24 little green apples from one columnar apple tree I have basically ignored since I got it. Ironically the only apple tree out of 10 to have fruit, well except for the crab apple – which the squirrels beat me to!

On route to peak season.
Blossoms everywhere. Love the colours and the insect action. I’ve picked a handful of beans and peas. Five tomatoes are in the kitchen for a final ripening.
Summer lunches ahead.

Tomatoes have started!
