Gourd Mourning

Last year’s luffa seeds have sprouted. Yay!

Still getting seeds in. Bush beans in front of the Akane apple. Rainbow carrots and radishes, as markers, behind the cucumbers. Have had no luck with carrots before, but here we go again.

Trying my hand a succession planting. Planted oak leaf lettuce a week ago. Seeded a large pot with mesclun greens. Always makes me think of peyote, always makes me smirk.

Victoria Day Madness

A weekend of planting madness. Can’t believe I got as much done as I did! The forecast called for up to 50mm of rain this weekend. A bit chilli still.

Summer bulbs are all in pots this year. That will mean more tending to, but I have the luxury of the time.

Quarn-gardening or gard-antined?

I didn’t want to miss the timing of the full moon to get my seeds started and with all this time available… tomatoes from a Loblaws variety pack, cucumbers, cannabis, basil and marigolds. On the top deck, potatoes and peas; way to early in my humble opinion. #stayathome

The boxwoods are in bloom

A perfect day in the garden. Bright and sunny and 10 degrees, no wind. The best place to be in COVID19. Did some light tidying up. Halved the peony by the terrace and split it and planted it behind the square boxwood. Such a pain to get the soil level just so. Spread about a half cup of 10-10-10 that was left over from last year. Need more manure, again. Have to get tomato seeds started this week. The light stand is now in the kitchen, so much better than bedroom gardening.

14 degrees

What a gorgeous day. Pruned the honeysuckle back to the top of the chain link. Did a nip and tuck on the dogwood, and the burning bush and cleaned up the remnants from last year’s cascade hops crop. Of course cut through the extension cord with the electric hedge trimmers. A sure sign of the start of the season.
