Quick update. Pipes thawed!

Toronto set a new record for snow. Likely close to 60cm and then some drifting. Light and fluffy and major cold -20C

Winter had a big day yesterday. Lots of snow – almost 10 inches of nice fluffy easy to shovel snow. Chilly at -11C . A bit more snow expected with temperatures seesawing to above zero and back down.
A large hawk sat in the Sycamore tree for two days before the snow. A lot of bird shit for one animal. Delighted to host an apex predator!

Tah dah! Potted up the seven amaryllis bulbs from last year. Two of the larger ones each had a damp/slimy spot on one side. I removed as much of the affected tissue as I thought safe and wiped the areas dry with paper towel thinking it might reduce the population of whatever is the cause.

Also started the first of the basil seeds for micro greens.

Weather outlook

Pulled the amaryllis bulbs out from under the attic eaves today. All seven are firm, green and look really healthy. I had packed them in vermiculite in open plastic bags. The vermiculite still has a nice hint of moisture. I want to plant them up this week. Minus 7 feels like -17, some sun and a nice dusting of snow over everything.
